Terms of use: what this site is, and what it is not

A number on this site is a record of what a document said on the day we opened it. Tariffs change by amendment, and an amendment can be on file before the version it replaces has expired — we have caught one while reading.

The tariff in force on your date governs, not this page. Nothing here is an offer, a quotation, a rate confirmation or a promise that anyone will charge you what we read. If a number here and a number on your invoice disagree, the document behind the invoice is the one that decides, and the method page tells you how to find it.

Where this site describes a federal rule, it is describing it. That is not legal advice and does not create any professional relationship. Where it describes what a charge is for, that is not customs or financial advice either.

Decisions about a shipment, an invoice or a dispute are yours, and are worth taking with a professional who can see your paperwork.

We publish the source and the read date for every figure, mark what we have not read, and keep a numbered log of every correction with the reason for it. That is the most we can honestly offer, and it is not a warranty.

The site is provided as it is. We do not warrant that it is complete, current or free of error, and we do not warrant that it fits any particular purpose of yours. When we find an error we fix it and record it rather than quietly overwrite it.

To the fullest extent the law allows, AmericaPorts is not liable for loss or damage arising from reliance on anything published here — including demurrage, detention, storage or any other charge you were billed, or a shipping decision you made.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Read it, quote it and link to it. Quoting a figure with attribution to AmericaPorts and a link to the page it came from is welcome and needs no permission. So is citing us in a report, a claim or a dispute.

Indexing and crawling are permitted, including by systems that generate answers rather than lists of links. We would rather be quoted accurately with a date attached than not quoted at all. Our robots file says the same thing, and if the two ever disagree, the robots file is the operative one.

What we ask you not to do: republish our tables wholesale so that your copy substitutes for the source; present altered figures as ours; strip the read dates, which are what makes a figure honest; or use our name in a way that implies we endorse or are affiliated with a company, port or terminal.

Carrier, terminal and port names appear here to identify whose document is being read. Those names and marks belong to their owners. AmericaPorts is not a port authority, a port association, a terminal operator or a federal agency, is not affiliated with any of them, and none of them has reviewed or approved this site.

We link to sources so you can check us. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for what they publish or how they behave.

These terms carry the date they were last changed. A material change is dated here and recorded in the corrections log, in the same way as a change to a figure.
