What this site collects, which is close to nothing
Most privacy policies are long because the site is doing a lot. This one is short because this site is static HTML and does none of it.
Everything below can be checked rather than believed: open the page source, or the network tab of any browser, on any page of this site.
No cookies, no analytics, no scripts, no forms
AmericaPorts sets no cookies of any kind — not necessary ones, not functional ones, not analytics ones. It writes nothing to local storage. It runs no JavaScript at all: the only script tags on this site are blocks of structured data for search engines, which are inert text.
It loads nothing from a third party — no fonts, no tag managers, no advertising networks, no embedded video, no social widgets, no consent platform. Every stylesheet, image and icon is served from this domain.
There are no forms anywhere on the site, and no account to create. There is nothing here to log into and nothing here to submit.
This is why you have not been asked to accept cookies. A consent banner would be asking your permission for something that is not happening.
What a web server records anyway
Serving a page requires receiving a request, and our hosting provider records those requests as any web server does: the IP address the request came from, the time, the address requested, the browser's user-agent string and the referring page if the browser sends one.
We do not join those records to anything, do not build profiles from them and do not use them to identify readers. They exist for operations and security — keeping the site up and seeing when something is attacking it. The hosting provider keeps them under its own retention schedule and we do not export or resell them.
This is the one place where personal data — an IP address counts as personal data under EU law — is processed at all. The lawful basis is legitimate interest in operating and securing the site.
Email you send us
The site publishes one address, for corrections. If you write to it, we hold your message and your address for as long as it takes to check the point and act on it, and afterwards as part of the record of why a figure changed.
Corrections are published; senders are not. The log on our method page carries what was wrong, why it was wrong and what changed, with its date. It does not carry your name, your address or your message unless you ask us to credit you.
We do not add correspondents to a mailing list, because there is no mailing list.
What we never do
We do not sell, rent or share personal data. There is no advertising on this site, no advertising network embedded in it and no affiliate or referral link anywhere on it. No company, port or terminal pays to appear here, and none is given data about who read about it.
We do not track you across sites, because we do not track you on this one.
Links to other sites
Where we cite a document we link to its source, and those are almost always federal or port-authority sites. Once you follow such a link you are on someone else's site under someone else's privacy policy, and ours stops applying. We have no control over what they record.
Your rights, and how to use them
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom you have rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction and objection over personal data about you. If you are a California resident you have the rights to know, to delete and to opt out of sale — and the answer to the third is that there is no sale to opt out of.
In practice the only data we could hold about you is an email you chose to send us, plus server log entries we cannot connect to you by name. Write to the address on our contact page and we will answer within thirty days. We will not charge you and we will not ask you to justify the request.
You also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.
Children
This is a trade reference about container shipping costs. It is not directed at children, and we knowingly collect nothing from anyone of any age beyond what is described above.
Changes to this page
This page carries the date it was last changed, like every figure on this site. If what the site does with data changes, this page is updated on the same day and the change goes into the corrections log with its date.
Last changed 2026-08-01 · a change to this page goes into the corrections log with its date: how every figure here is sourced.
